Where it is
The naturist stretch of Capo Rasocolmo, beyond the sand mountains of San Saba, in an isolated portion of Messina's Tyrrhenian coastline.
Just beyond the seaside village of San Saba, on Messina's Tyrrhenian coast, Capo Rasocolmo preserves one of the most distinctive coastal stretches in the area, dominated by the characteristic "Sand Mountains" and a shoreline alternating between light sand, pebbles, and rocky outcrops. Moving away from the houses, the landscape gradually becomes more isolated, until reaching the area frequented by naturists for over forty years and formally designated by the Municipality in 2022.
The naturist zone is located beyond the sandy formations, towards Capo Rasocolmo, and is reached by continuing on foot along the shoreline for several hundred meters. The distance from the village beach helps create a secluded environment where the open sea and the horizon overlooking the Aeolian Islands are the main elements of the landscape. The stretch does not have kiosks, restrooms, or lifeguards, so it is necessary to bring water, food, and sun protection; water shoes can also be useful for moving more comfortably among pebbles and rocks.
The municipal ordinance establishes that access must take place via the shoreline, prohibiting camping and tent pitching, and requires visitors to take their trash with them. This is a particularly important choice in such an unserviced place, where wind and sea can rapidly change the shoreline and where the main value of the beach remains precisely its natural character.
The result is a beach especially suited for those seeking naturism, isolation, and a context devoid of services, rather than the comfort of an equipped lido; it is also worth considering the walk required to reach it and the limited parking availability on summer weekends.
Naturism authorisation
Naturism is permitted by an official order, regulation, or indication. Respect the area boundaries and any signs.
Reach San Saba and park in the permitted spaces. Facing the sea, proceed on foot towards Capo Rasocolmo for several hundred meters, passing the sand mountains until reaching the delimited stretch.
The beach is public and devoid of services. Access must be made along permitted paths, without crossing or damaging the sandy formations.
Access is free; any costs concern only parking in the village or external services.
The long walk on sand and pebbles and natural passages make the area inaccessible to wheelchairs.
The Municipality of Messina designated the naturist beach of Capo Rasocolmo-San Saba with commissioner ordinance no. 44 of May 20, 2022, following council resolution no. 31 of March 3, 2022.
