Nudist beach in Gela
Bulala

A vast naturist stretch of sandy beach and dunes in contrada Bulala, between the Scolmatore canal and the mouth of the Dirillo, near the Biviere di Gela.

What this place is like

East of Gela, near the Biviere, Bulala is one of Italy's most unusual naturist areas, primarily due to its size: the sector designated by the Municipality in 2016 extends for about six kilometers of sandy coastline, from the eastern mouth of the Scolmatore canal to the Dirillo river. The beach is wide and open, accompanied by dunes and coastal vegetation, while its vast expanse naturally disperses visitors, making it possible to find very isolated spots.

The landscape is part of the eastern area of the Gulf of Gela, near Biviere and Macconi, an environmental system of great interest for its dune vegetation and avifauna; the lake, located just over a kilometer from the sea, is in fact a Nature Reserve and one of the main Sicilian resting areas for migratory birds.

However, Bulala remains an extremely spartan beach: there are no dedicated facilities, establishments, or assistance, access points are not particularly intuitive, and over time, the presence of waste and materials washed ashore or abandoned has been reported in various spots. Therefore, it is necessary to arrive completely self-sufficient and carefully choose the spot where you stop.

One final distinction is essential: authorization for naturism does not equate to authorization for swimming. Certain portions of the Bulala coastline are subject to specific bans, including those related to marine archaeological protection, so before entering the water, you must check the signs and prohibitions present in the specific stretch you have reached.
