Naturism authorisation
Officially authorised
Naturism is permitted by an official order, regulation, or indication. Respect the area boundaries and any signs.
Where it is
A stretch of free-access naturist beach between posts 13 and 15 at Lecciona, surrounded by dunes and the Macchia Lucchese within the Migliarino Park.
Between Torre del Lago Puccini and Viareggio, Lecciona reveals a side of the Tuscan coast far removed from traditional beach resorts, with a wide sandy shoreline, dunes covered in vegetation and the Apuan Alps rising in the background. Behind the beach lies the Macchia Lucchese, which together with the shoreline forms a mosaic of protected habitats within the Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli Park.
The section between posts 13 and 15 has been officially authorised for naturism since 2022, following the initiative promoted by A.N.ITA. together with the Municipality of Viareggio. The authorisation does not apply to the entire Lecciona beach. The area remains public and accessible to everyone, so it should not be regarded as a private beach or as a place reserved exclusively for people practising nudism.
Coming from the Torre del Lago seafront, visitors can leave their car in the paid parking areas along Viale Europa and reach the sea via the walkways, then continue north along the shoreline until reaching the signposted section. The walk gradually separates the serviced area from the naturist zone, where it is best to arrive already equipped for spending the day outdoors.
Water and some form of sun protection are advisable, while also taking into account exposure to sea winds. The dunes should not be used as shortcuts or occupied as recreational spaces. Driftwood deposited by storms also plays a role in preserving the natural environment and should be left where it is; what should disappear from the sand instead are plastic, litter and cigarette butts, which visitors should take away with them at the end of the day.

Access to the naturist beach of Lecciona involves crossing the protected area of the Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli Park, so the final stretch must be completed on foot or by bicycle. The most practical reference point for those arriving by car is the Viale Europa area in Torre del Lago Puccini, or alternatively Viale dei Tigli, where both paid municipal parking spaces and private day-parking areas are available.
After leaving the vehicle, continue along the wooden walkways and paths that cross the dunes until you reach the public beach. From there, walk north for about 500 metres to reach the section most commonly used by naturists.
An alternative access point, historically used by visitors, starts from the Via dei Tigli area near Villa Borbone and also leads to the beach through the internal paths of the park.
Lecciona can also be reached without a car: from Viareggio railway station, local buses can be taken towards Viale dei Tigli or the areas connected with Piazza d'Azeglio, after which the final part of the route continues on foot through the pine forest and along the paths leading to the beach.
Lecciona is a free-access beach that is also visited outside the summer season, without an opening calendar comparable to that of a managed beach resort. No specific opening hours appear to be set for the naturist section; before visiting, however, it is advisable to check for any temporary restrictions announced by the Municipality or the Park Authority and to verify wind and sea conditions.
Access to the beach is free and does not require booking or a membership card, as this is a public beach open to everyone. Several parking areas in the Torre del Lago marina area are, however, subject to a fee, with rates and enforcement periods to be checked on local signage or with the parking operator.
Paths and wooden walkways make it easier to approach the shoreline, but reaching the naturist section also requires walking along a stretch of sand, the length of which depends on the chosen access point. The presence of walkways therefore does not guarantee a completely barrier-free route all the way to the area where visitors settle. Wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility should check the condition of the route with the Park Authority in advance.
Naturism was authorised by the Municipality of Viareggio through Municipal Executive Resolution no. 130 of 22 April 2022, covering the stretch between emergency posts 13 and 15 rather than the whole of Lecciona; visitors should therefore rely on the signage on site to identify the authorised area. The Park's environmental protection rules also apply: use marked paths, do not walk on the dunes, take all waste away with you, and respect the bans on camping and lighting fires.
