Nudist beach Lido di Dante (Bassona) in Ravenna

Spiaggia nudista della Bassona, a Lido di Dante, Ravenna

The historic naturist beach of Bassona, between Lido di Dante and the mouth of the Bevano river, featuring sand, protected dunes, and the Pineta di Classe behind it.

What this place is like

South of Lido di Dante, Bassona represents one of the most natural and recognizable stretches of the Ravenna coast, with a fine sandy beach running in front of the Pineta Ramazzotti and the Nature Reserve of the Ravenna coastal dune and the Bevano River mouth. Here the landscape changes rapidly compared to the more equipped Riviera: bathing establishments and buildings disappear, while marine erosion and the natural evolution of the coast have progressively modified dunes and vegetation, leaving an essential environment where naturism has a decades-long tradition.

The naturist practice is officially authorized by the Municipality of Ravenna and, for 2026, primarily affects a sector of about 400 meters starting 50 meters beyond the projection onto the shoreline of the path coming from the pine forest. The main area is usable from May to September, while a second, more southern section is opened from July or even August, depending on the completion of nesting and the instructions of the Carabinieri for Biodiversity. During the authorized season, a lifeguard service is also provided, while Camping Classe makes the restrooms required by regional regulations available free of charge to visitors.

By day, Bassona primarily retains the character of a traditional naturist beach, frequented by people of various ages, couples, and even families looking for a day by the sea away from the establishments and confusion of the Riviera. The distance from the center contributes to the tranquility, but requires a walk along the shore or through the permitted paths of the pine forest (crossing the pine forest with children is not recommended); the dunes, on the other hand, cannot be crossed or used as a shortcut, and in the second sector camping, umbrellas, and other temporary structures are also prohibited to protect a particularly delicate environment.

However, Bassona also has a second identity that is useful to know before visiting. As evening approaches and especially in the later hours, various testimonies from visitors and reports collected over the years describe a progressive change in attendance, with episodes of voyeurism, swingers, and sexualized behaviors affecting mostly the more secluded areas and the pine forest behind; a situation distinct from the naturist practice and which has repeatedly been the subject of protests by local residents and naturist associations themselves. For those seeking naturism in its family and relaxed dimension, the daytime slot clearly remains the most suitable, while late evening presents a very context that is poorly suited for minors.
