Home nudism: what are the risks of welcoming guests and workers into your house?
Published on 14 September 2026
Home nudism is becoming increasingly popular, but how should you behave when welcoming guests or workers into your home? Common sense dictates making sure in advance that nudity is accepted and, in any case, not forcing strangers to be exposed to your body. Remaining naked at home is not in itself illegal, nor does it constitute a crime unless accompanied by improper behavior, but it is good practice to avoid disturbing the sensitivity of others.
It is certainly no secret: nudism and naturism are not practiced only in dedicated places, such as beaches, but also within the four walls of one's home. The freedom to enjoy moments of regenerating relaxation, away from prying eyes and in full privacy, is indeed priceless. Yet, among those who practice home nudism, a doubt arises quite frequently: how to behave if expecting guests or, even, workers? The question is not as obvious as, at first glance, it might seem: at stake are not only the rules of common sense, but also possible questions regarding legal aspects.
Guests at home: among good rules of behavior
The first issue to consider is how to behave if, while wanting to practice nudism within the four walls of one's home, one also wants to welcome guests, such as friends or relatives. A problem that is far from obvious because, as much as one wishes to respect the needs of others, being naked at home does not necessarily mean having to interrupt this habit every time someone arrives.
First of all, it is necessary to ask oneself a consideration of common sense: even within one's domestic spaces, nudity should be shared or, at least, accepted in advance. If you invite someone to your home who does not practice nudism, or whose preferences regarding nudity are unknown, common sense should suggest to:
- warn in advance that nudism is practiced in the house;
- ask the guest if the habit might cause problems or embarrassment.
Indeed, one should not take for granted that all guests are comfortable with nudity: if they show discomfort, making the small sacrifice of being dressed will preserve a relationship or a friendship, while giving up a few hours of unclothed freedom.
Workers at home: what consequences if remaining naked?
A decidedly different situation, also by virtue of the absence of a bond of friendship or kinship, is that of domestic nudity in the presence of strangers. For example, how to behave if welcoming workers into the home, such as maintenance technicians, plumbers, bricklayers, and so on?
Although the underlying principles do not change, common sense suggests a few more precautions. Whoever enters the house does not do so to share a nudist experience, nor driven by the desire to spend convivial moments with an old friend. This is a person present due to professional obligations, whose thoughts, beliefs, habits, fears, and embarrassments are unknown. Consequently, one should never surprise the worker with one's nudity, out of a simple matter of respect. If you really do not want to give up - even temporarily - your freedom, you can try to inform the worker prior to their entry, asking permission to remain without clothes.
In any case, even if the professional has consented to nudity, always evaluate the possibility of dressing if they show discomfort or, further, stopping the service and leaving.
When can domestic nudity represent an offense or a crime in Italy?
From a strictly legal point of view, one's home is a private and protected place. Consequently, being naked at home does not in itself constitute an offense or a crime, provided there is no visibility towards the outside: exposing oneself without clothes on a balcony or a window without curtains, visible to neighbors, can indeed configure the administrative offense of acts contrary to public decency, under Article 726 of the Penal Code.
And regarding the presence of the worker inside the home? If the nudity is purely passive, and not accompanied by sexual gestures, no crime is configured. Not even that of harassment, under Article 660 of the Penal Code, which requires a public place or a place open to the public - or by means of the telephone - for the condition to be fulfilled, moreover in the presence of petulance or another blameworthy reason.
However, one must not consider only nudity, but also one's behavior. If nudity is accompanied by explicit advances, exhibitionist gestures, or sexual comments, the more serious crime of sexual violence can be configured, under Article 609-bis of the Penal Code. Furthermore, if an oppressive atmosphere is created, preventing the technician from leaving, it can lead to private violence, under Article 610 of the Penal Code. Possibilities, these, however very remote and unlikely for those who embrace nudist and naturist philosophies, where respect represents a core principle.
