The Capocotta naturist oasis, on the public beach of the Roman Coastline Nature Reserve, featuring golden sand, protected dunes, and seasonal services.

What this place is like

Along the Via Litoranea between Ostia and Torvaianica, Capocotta preserves one of the most distinctive coastal landscapes of the Roman coast, where the golden sandy beach quickly gives way to dunes covered in Mediterranean vegetation. The Naturist Oasis occupies plot D1 of this dune system, included within the State Nature Reserve of the Roman Coastline and subject to a high level of environmental protection; despite its proximity to the capital, once you pass the entrance boardwalk, the atmosphere appears very different from the urbanized beaches of Ostia.

The naturist destination now has a well-established history: in 1999, the Municipality of Rome decided to designate a space equipped with services for this practice along its coastline, and following the positive opinion of the Reserve Commission, the Oasis was established at Capocotta. To this day, Roma Capitale formally identifies plot D1 as an area designated for naturism, while the city's official tourism portal classifies it as a public beach and confirms its free admission.

Compared to many completely wild naturist beaches, Capocotta generally offers a greater presence of services: during the season, bars and restaurants, restrooms, and sunbed and umbrella rentals may be available, while it remains entirely possible to use the beach freely without purchasing equipment. However, actual availability should be verified before visiting, as the facilities are seasonal and in some years the Oasis has experienced a complex administrative phase related to the new kiosk's permits.

The key element to respect in any case is the dune system: access to the beach must take place exclusively via the designated walkways, and it is strictly forbidden to trample the fenced dunes, damage the vegetation, or create alternative paths. Capocotta thus successfully combines a historic and organized naturist tradition with a protected coastal environment, offering a rather rare solution for those seeking naturism near a large city without entirely giving up services and assistance.
