Nudism and male hair removal: two contrasting philosophies
Published on 18 September 2026
The topic of male hair removal is at the center of intense online discussions, pitting nudists and naturists who favor the hairy man against others who are convinced of the need to completely remove any form of body hair. Two different philosophies, with equally valid reasons, representing equally distinct experiences of nudity. But how should one navigate this?
For anyone approaching the varied universe of nudism and naturism for the first time, an apparently curious topic will certainly not have escaped notice: that of male hair removal. Indeed, a brief online search is enough to find oneself immersed in hundreds of discussions - often extremely heated - pitting supporters of the hairy man against those of the hairless man. But why does this conversation assume such importance, and even particularly intense tones, within nudist and naturist communities? Probably because they represent two contrasting philosophies, even though the most important one is only one: always feeling good with oneself.
The arguments in favor of the hairy and natural man

For a large party of nudists and naturists, the answer to the pilary debate is written in the very etymology of the word nature. The founding ideology of these lifestyles would indeed be the abandonment of social superstructures and artifice: in other words, the return to a pure and primal state, as much as possible a symbol of man as an element of nature itself. From this perspective, male body hair is not an imperfection to be corrected, but a biological element to be embraced, precisely because it is the ultimate representation of the male gender in the most natural sense of the term.
Going into further detail, from the various discussions available online it emerges that:
- maintaining a naturally hairy body means guaranteeing a primordial connection with the natural element, accepting it without reservation;
- hair removal leads to the loss of specific biological, evolutionary, and sensory functions, which prevents experiencing in full competency the experience of a direct relationship with nature itself.
Furthermore, there is a distinctly more current reason: in a historical era where the body is increasingly pushed towards standardization and perfection, also due to passing trends and advertising, the rejection of smooth physiques represents the reaffirmation of diversity and uniqueness that characterizes every man.
The motivations of supporters of the hairless man

On the other side of the fence are nudists and naturists who prefer completely smooth skin. For supporters of this philosophy, being hairless is not a trivial concession to current trends, but rather the means to reach an even deeper, more exposed, and absolute level of nudity. The underlying premise of this theory is subtle, but decisive: if clothes represent a barrier between man and nature, dense body hair also represents a filter.
In particular, supporters of the completely shaved man claim:
- an amplified sensitivity, free from the tactile interference of hair, which allows entering into deeper contact with the natural world, enhancing it;
- a greater essentiality and visual purity, because removing hair is a sort of physical "tabula rasa", which obliges presenting oneself to others in the most defenseless form but, at the same time, capable of guaranteeing the fullest feeling of freedom.
More generally, the most recognized issue is the fact that hair actually creates a physical and thermal separation between the epidermis and the surrounding environment, as if one remained clothed despite taking off the clothes.
The solution? Respect yourself
As heated and peremptory as online discussions may be, one must remember that there is no "more authentic" body to live the nudist and naturist experience. The imposition of bodily dogmas probably finds fertile ground on the servers of social networks and forums, but in reality, respect - for oneself and for others - always remains at the center.
Whether one chooses to show off a hairy chest, or to appear on the beach with skin as smooth as silk, the only true priority is to respect one's own needs, to feel good with one's being and one's body. After all, embracing nudism and naturism also means having the mental capacity to strip away prejudices, in addition to clothes: this is precisely the secret so that being naked represents a safe space, a free zone where the body becomes simply a body once again, without labels of any kind.
